Congratulations to Lauren Newhouse, an undergraduate nursing student named the 2021-2022 Breakthrough to Nursing Director for the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA). Newhouse represents Georgia State in the National Student Nurses Association and will work to increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented diverse groups within the nursing profession by promoting career opportunities in nursing and aiding nursing education.
Nursing students are gaining valuable experience as they assist the university’s Student Health Clinic in administering 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to the university’s eligible faculty and staff. As health care workers on the front lines, the students also vaccinated themselves and their classmates.

Under normal circumstances, Georgia State nursing students go to a hospital or other medical facility for practical experience, called clinical. But thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, students instead sign on to clinical experience via video conferencing. They participate in this virtual experience that allows them to interact with patients as if the patients lay in a hospital bed.

Dr. Regena Spratling has been named the Associate Dean and Chief Academic Officer for Nursing. Dr. Spratling, who is an associate professor and has been on the Georgia State faculty since 2012, takes over leadership of the school from Dr. Susan Kelley.
