Entrance Exam Scores
Photocopy of your GRE scores. The score should be sent directly to Georgia State University from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Scores cannot be more than five years old from the desired semester of entry. We recommend that you take the GRE no later than two months prior to the application deadline. The correct institution code for Georgia State University is 5251. A department code is not used. If you have an official copy of your GRE scores, please upload a photocopy with your application. While a photocopy is not acceptable for admission and we must still receive official scores from ETS, a photocopy can help expedite the processing of your application. Visit the GRE website athttp://www.gre.org/ or call 1-800-GRE-CALL for information and registration. A minimum score of 156 on the verbal and 144 on the quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam is preferred. A minimum of 4.0 is required on the Analytical Writing section.

What is required for admission to Georgia State’s undergraduate RT program?
If you are a current student you must attend a mandatory faculty advisement seminar, complete AREAS A-F, take the Allied Health TEAS exam and apply by the March 1st deadline which includes an essay on why you are interested in the BS RT program. If you are a transfer student you must be accepted to GSU as an undergraduate transfer student before you can apply to the BS RT program. Once you are accepted your transfer credit will be articulated by undergraduate admissions to determine if you have met AREAS A-F.

How long does it take to complete the BS RT program?
If you have never attended college at minimum 4 years. If you have transfer credit at minimum 2 years depending on the courses that transfer.
How much weight does the admissions committee place on the program GPA and TEAS scores?
The TEAS exam and program GPA are strong predictors of how successful a student will be in the BS RT program and therefore are significant factors in determining admissions in addition to the essay.
If I am an international student with international credentials/courses how can I apply?
You must follow the application procedures to apply as an international transfer student. After you are admitted to GSU as an international transfer student you must complete the BS RT application, TEAS exam and attend a mandatory faculty advisement seminar.
What is required for admission to Georgia State’s MS RT program?
You must submit an application, GRE score(s), 2 letters of recommendation, resume, and transcripts from all institutions attended.
Can the GRE be waived?
Yes. To request a waiver of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) requirement, applicants to the Traditional Master’s in Health Science with a concentration in Respiratory Therapy (MSRT) Program must submit a written request as to why they want the GRE waived and that request provides details of their RT education and RT work experience; applicants must attach their current resume and official academic transcripts to the waiver request. Please submit your waiver request by May 15th for fall admission, January 15th for summer admission and Sept 15th for spring admission to the Office of Academic Admission. Applicants who submit a GRE waiver request after this date risk not having adequate time to take the GRE if their request is denied. The following are requirements for waiver of the GRE:
- Minimal GPA of 3.0
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical respiratory therapy work experience.
- Two letters of recommendation that can document your work in the respiratory therapy profession.
- RRT credential

If I am an international student with international credentials/courses how can I apply?
You must have your credentials evaluated by an international credentialing agency (WES or Josef Silny). You must request a document by document evaluation. The TOEFL or IELTS is required for applicants whose first language is not English or who completed a degree outside the U.S
What is a competitive score for the TOEFL or IELTS?
TOEFL – IBT exam score of 80 or higher; IELTS – overall score of 7 or higher
Can I defer my acceptance?
Yes, you can ask to defer your acceptance once to the upcoming semester. All deferral cases are reviewed independently and not guaranteed approval. You deferral request must come no later than 10 days after the beginning of the semester. Any requests beyond that date will be automatically denied.

Respiratory therapy is now requiring undergraduate applicants to take the TEAS Allied Health (formally known as the Hobet).
Testing is held at Georgia State, and it will be a computerized proctored test for those applying to the program. View TEAS exam information here.
