Early Career Investigator of the Year
The Young Investigator of the Year award is given to a junior faculty member in the first five years of their appointment who has exceptional promise and achievements in their field of study. The trajectory of their work shall indicate extraordinary promise for future success and sustained excellence in their field of study.
Award: one-time award of $1,000
Eligibility: A Lewis College faculty who has been in their full-time position for five years or fewer
Evaluation Criteria
- Research Excellence: Candidates must have made significant contributions to their field of study. This can include high-quality publications, extramural grants, impactful discoveries, or notable advancements in their respective disciplines.
- Awards and recognition: Any previous awards, honors, or distinctions received by the candidate may be considered as an additional measure of their accomplishments and potential.
- Network and Collaboration: The candidate’s ability to collaboratively work with other researchers, successfully mentor students, and work with clinical partners and/or external agencies.
- Potential for future impact: Potential for candidate to continue making substantial contributions to their field in the future based on their current trajectory of research excellence and accomplishments.
Nomination requirements:
- Candidate’s CV (format as described in the Lewis College P&T/promotion manual)
- Sign off from Department Chair or designee.
- Two individual letters of nomination from peers or superiors detailing clear examples of how the nominee meets the criteria for the specific
award. Letters should be two pages or less, on letterhead, signed by the author, and submitted as a .PDF as instructed on the submissions form. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Outstanding Research Mentor>
The Outstanding Research Mentor award is given to a faculty member who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to mentoring others in developing their research and scholarly activities. Exceptional mentoring can include offering advice and/or feedback, and guidance on manuscript writing, grant writing, project supervision including supervision of student research projects. Mentoring also includes providing professional opportunities for mentees, and/or assisting in development of research skills.
Award: one-time award of $2000
Eligibility: Any full-time Lewis College faculty member
Evaluation Criteria
- Mentorship Excellence: Mentors must have demonstrated excellence in mentoring aspiring researchers. They should have a proven record of accomplishment of providing guidance, inspiration, and valuable feedback to their mentees, resulting in their intellectual and professional development.
- Impact on research: The mentor's work should have had a significant impact through their mentees' contributions. This could include publications, presentations at conferences, patents, grants, or other notable research achievements resulting from the mentor's guidance and support.
- Network and Collaboration: The mentor has provided opportunities for mentees to network and collaborate with other researchers, facilitate connections within the research community, and encouraged mentees to participate in conferences, workshops, and other scholarly events.
- Mentor-Mentee Relationship: Mentors have demonstrated empathy, trust, and respect towards their mentees, creating a nurturing environment where the mentees feel comfortable seeking guidance and advice.

Mid-Career Award for Contribution to Health Science
The Mid-Career Award for Contribution to Health Science is given to a faculty member who has made significant contributions to health science in their field and who is at least 5 years into their academic career. This award acknowledges their exceptional research accomplishments, innovation, and leadership, and encourages further advancements in their research careers.
Award: one-time award of $2000
Eligibility: Any full-time Lewis College faculty member who is at least 5 years into their academic career
Evaluation Criteria
- Research Excellence: The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in their field of study. They should have made substantial contributions through high-quality research publications, significant discoveries, and have received substantial extramural funding to support their research.
- Impact of research: The candidate’s research should have had an impact on the field or a broader societal impact. This can be evidenced by citations, recognition from peers, industry collaborations, adoption of research findings, policy changes, or any other measurable indicators of the research's influence.
- Leadership and Collaboration: The candidate demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to foster collaboration within their research community. They should have actively engaged in mentoring and supervising junior researchers, promoting a positive and supportive research environment, and actively collaborating with other researchers or research teams to achieve shared goals.
- Future potential: The candidate has potential to continue making significant contributions to their field in the future. Their work should demonstrate a trajectory of continued excellence and innovation, with the potential to influence and shape the future of their research area.

The Senior Researcher Award for Contribution to Health Science is given to a senior faculty member who has made outstanding contributions to health science in their field. This award acknowledges their long-term dedication, significant research outputs, leadership, mentorship, and the impact their research has made to their field.

- Leadership and mentorship: The candidate must have exhibited exceptional leadership qualities and made significant contributions to the mentorship and development of other researchers. They should have actively engaged in mentoring and guiding junior researchers, fostering a collaborative research environment, and promoting the professional growth of their mentees.
- Continued commitment to excellence: The candidate is recognized by peers as someone who continues to make significant contribution to their field. Their work should demonstrate a continued commitment to excellence and innovation, and they should have a vision for future research directions and advancement.
