The Lewis College Faculty-Scholars Teaching Academy aims to promote all faculty who are passionate about teaching and learning in the Health Professions. The Faculty-Scholars Teaching Academy is a College-wide professional development source providing tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty with the support they need to excel as teachers, scholars, and mentors. In turn, these initiatives support student engagement and retention and help create graduates who are lifelong learners.
The Faculty-Scholars Teaching Academy offers support for numerous aspects of the professoriate life. This includes promoting faculty scholars who publish their scholarship and offer expertise in developing teaching and learning strategies based on research and best practices. The Faculty-Scholars Teaching Academy is dedicated to fostering a college community where outstanding facilitation of learning leads to significant and transformative learning. In addition, support for faculty to enhance their scholarly initiatives through funding, mentorship, and guidance are key to success. Finally, the Faculty-Scholars Teaching Academy helps faculty develop career skills useful for excelling in professional service and promotion. Past scholars are professional consultants and are available to discuss any aspect of teaching, such as enhancing classroom techniques, designing courses, and integrating technology.
To facilitate institutional distinction and provide opportunities for our faculty to become excellent facilitators of learning, a culture of shared commitment, evidence-informed practice, and innovation is stressed. Faculty Development at the Lewis College helps faculty members with all levels of experience in their quests to continually improve their teaching, scholarship, and service. Whether you're seeking a new technique to better support students in your classroom, want to learn more about faculty governance, or hope to take your scholarship to the next level, being a Faculty Scholar assists in meeting your goals.
Each fall semester, a new cohort of Faculty-Scholars are appointed in the areas of teaching and learning including various pedagogies, student-centered teaching, and assessment.
