Scholarships for Students in the Lewis College
Application Deadlines
Academic Advising
You must first determine how much you will need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible. The GSU Office of Financial Aid identifies your need and develops your financial offer package. Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) will be calculated based upon the FAFSA. The gap between the calculated cost of attendance and family contribution equals your demonstrated need. Remember that all sources of financial aid cannot exceed the calculated cost of attendance. Also, you must report all outside funding to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Generally, there are two types of scholarships available, merit-based and need-based scholarships.
For merit-based scholarships you should consider the following:
- Is your overall GPA above 3.0?
- Does your essay convey your passion for your intended field?
For need-based scholarships consider the following:
- Have you completed your annual FAFSA?
- Georgia State University FAFSA School Code: 001574
To apply for scholarships, log into the Georgia State Scholarship Portal (GSSP):
- The system uses a blind matching system so you do not need to apply for scholarships individually. You will first complete a general application in GSSP. After you complete the general application, then the system will prompt you to complete the Lewis College Supplemental Application. Your application will be automatically matched to those scholarships for which you qualify based on the criteria for each award.
- Answer all questions. Be sure to answer ALL questions to the best of your ability. This will increase your likelihood of qualifying for more scholarships. Give the scholarship committee a chance to get to know you.
- For essay:
- Why do you deserve a scholarship?
- What makes you unique?
- What are some of your goals?
- Are there any obstacles you've had to face in your journey?
- How did you overcome these obstacles?
- How will a scholarship help you overcome these obstacles? - New student: apply before the start of your first semester
- Current student: resubmit your GSSP application every November (GSSP undergoes system maintenance in October)
