Where are you from?
I am a Georgia peach! I was born and raised in Brunswick and moved to Atlanta almost five years ago.- What do you like to do outside of school? What are you passionate about in life? - tell us about yourself!
I love to read, go for walks in the park, go thrifting, spend time with friends and family, and take naps with my cat, Tink. - Why did you choose to study nutrition? Was there a specific person, experience, or event that sparked your interest?
I chose to study nutrition because I love food, science, mental health, and counseling. I think that nutrition science is the perfect mix of all of the subjects that I enjoy learning about. There are so many opportunities within this field, and I am very excited to help others along their health and nutrition journey. - What made you choose the Coordinated Program in Nutrition program at GSU?
I received my undergraduate degree in Nutrition Science from Georgia State, so it was an easy transition to joining the GSU Coordinated Program in Nutrition. I made several friends from the undergraduate program and appreciated our professors and advisors, so I decided to stay a Panther. Also, since this program is coordinated, it allows us to form deeper connections with our preceptors, professors, and peers. - What is your favorite thing about the Coordinated Program?
My favorite thing about the Coordinated Program is the vast amount of opportunities presented. Before joining the program, you may want to work with sports, pediatrics, oncology, etc. This may change throughout the program, and that is absolutely normal! There are so many preceptors that work with us, and the options are endless. - Did you have any assistantships while you were in the program that helped offset the cost of tuition? If so, tell us a bit about what you did for these assistantships.
I have been the GTA for Perspectives on Comparitive Culture since January 2023. As a GTA, I grade all of the assignments, and I am the point of contact for students that have any comments or questions. I highly recommend applying for a GTA position if possible. I have been able to cover the majority of my tuition and establish connections within the field of nutrition. It has been a great experience! - Where do you see yourself after graduation? What type of career would you like to have?
After graduation, I will take the R.D. exam (manifesting that I pass on the first try)! I am leaning towards nutrition counseling, specifically for women’s health. However, this may change, and I am open to learning more about what I want to do as a future healthcare provider. - If you could give advice to someone considering studying nutrition, what would you tell them?
My advice to someone considering studying nutrition is not to sweat the small stuff. Take a day off, go for a walk, spend time with friends and family, and do whatever makes you happiest. Studying nutrition, especially in a graduate program, is a challenging but extremely rewarding experience. You will not be able to get everything done in one day, so take a day for yourself whenever you feel like it.
