- Where are you from?
I am originally from Egypt but grew up in Quebec, Canada. - What do you like to do outside of school? What are you passionate about in life? - tell us about yourself!
Some of my hobbies include reading, playing volleyball and photography. I love going on hikes and taking photos. I also enjoy spending time with my younger siblings. - Why did you choose to study nutrition? Was there a specific person, experience, or event that sparked your interest?
I always knew I wanted to study something in science, but I was not sure what to major in. My interest in nutrition started when I would see family and friends around me would try new diets and supplements, hoping it would benefit their health. This is when I realized that the right nutrition knowledge is not widely spread, and studying this would not only benefit me and my family, but I would be able to educate others in my community as well. I wanted to learn more about how food and nutrition affect the human body and the science behind it all. - What made you choose the B.S. in Nutrition program at GSU?
The two main reasons I chose the nutrition program at GSU was the high ranking of GSU’s undergrad teaching quality. I wanted to pick a university where I would be taught in the best way and be able to grow. I had also seen that GSU was doing a lot of research, especially in the nutrition field and had nutrition graduate programs as well. - What is your favorite thing about GSU’s nutrition program?
My favorite thing about GSU’s nutrition program is the professors. I love taking classes with professors who are passionate about what they teach and share their experiences in lectures. - Are you involved in any nutrition-related experiences (research, other projects), or volunteering, outreach, or student organizations? If so, please tell us a bit about them.
I started research in Dr. Wander’s lab this fall. I am finishing up the training to be able to start working on a new research project. I love attending lab meetings and learning about the other nutrition research going on. I also enjoy gaining new lab skills and seeing the process of finding new possible treatments related to nutrition. Additionally, meeting others who are also passionate about nutrition and research is inspiring as well. - Where do you see yourself after graduating with your B.S. in Nutrition? Are you planning to go to graduate school? What type of career would you like to have?
I am planning to attend medical school and specializing in pediatrics. I love working with kids and want to be able to treat and help them using the nutrition knowledge that I learn from this degree. - If you could give advice to someone considering studying nutrition, what would you tell them?
If you know you will like it, it’s worth it. You will be able to use the knowledge you gain in many ways and it’s a great undergrad degree if you want to work in healthcare. So many of things that I have learned I am able to share with family and friends or use in my daily life. Professors here are genuinely passionate about what they teach, and you will be able to get as much help as you need.
