An anonymous donor has established the Charles Anthony Smith Ph.D., RN, ONC Endowed Nursing Scholarship. Dr. Smith’s passion for nursing education is demonstrated by this scholarship, which will reach many students in the future. He supports the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions financially and through his time serving as chair of our board of advisors.
Dr. Smith graduated from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing nearly 50 years ago, and thenearned his bachelor's and master’s nursing degrees at Georgia State University. He completed a Ph.D. in nursing at Mercer University. He worked in an acute care setting at Piedmont Hospital in orthopedic nursing, ultimately advancing to the rank of Executive Director of Nursing for Acute Care Services at Piedmont. Dr. Smith now shares his nursing knowledge and experience with a new generation of nursing students as a professor at Mercer.
The endowed scholarship named in his honor carries on the legacy of excellence of Dr. Tony Smith for his steadfast dedication and devotion to his beloved nursing profession.
