Greetings!
May 2022 marks the conclusion of my career at Georgia State University and the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions. Over the past 22 years, I’ve watched the college grow and evolve and, I hope, had some small impact on these changes.
I have worn many hats in my job at the Lewis College. Officially, I’m the director of communications, but unofficially I’ve been the chief content writer and editor, major events manager, college brand manager, general proofreader, occasional photographer, marketing advisor, print publication designer and unofficial college historian. Though the job could be overwhelming at times, I’ve enjoyed every year of my employment.
I’m particularly grateful to all who have supported me, both present and past. I want to thank the deans I’ve worked under, particularly Dr. Susan Kelley, Dr. Nancy Kropf and our current dean, Dr. Huanbiao Mo. I’d also like to thank all the other college employees, both staff and faculty, who have enriched my career. With over 110 in our college, I’m unable to thank you all by name. For those who’ve worked closely with me, hopefully, they feel my gratitude.
I’m happy to have been a part of our college and the graduates we produce. When I arrived at Georgia State in April 2000, the college had 6,200 alumni from six academic areas. We now have more than 13,000 alumni and have added four new academic areas, and as the event manager, I have watched more than 2,900 of you walk across the stage at commencement.
I’m also happy to say that I’ve encountered several of our alumni in my personal healthcare journey. Whenever I go to a new doctor’s office or healthcare facility, I’m always sure to ask where the nurses, therapists and other professionals earned their degrees, and I always mention the Lewis College if they are considering furthering their education.
Although I’m officially “graduating” from work at Georgia State, I plan to stay in touch and hope to be part of future events as a retiree, particularly the college’s J. Rhodes Haverty Lecture, in which I’ve been involved since inception.
Thank you to all our newsletter readers. Each issue has been written for you, and I hope I’ve brought the Lewis College to you during my time at Georgia State. Best wishes and go Panthers!
Warm Regards,
Angela Arnold Go
