Nurse practitioner and Georgia State University alumna Yuan Hu was named one of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2021 Health Care Heroes.
The 2012 master’s nursing graduate and native of China heard about the growing epidemic of a new contagious and deadly illness known as COVID-19 in China during December 2019. She became concerned about possible shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE), so she started a campaign to collect gloves, gowns and masks for the 30-person cardiology group she served.
Over time, Hu’s efforts expanded until she needed to work with the Piedmont Hospital director of safety to coordinate collecting more than 40,000 items and distributing them throughout the health system’s 11 facilities.
Congratulations to Hu for being recognized for her mission to provide one of Atlanta’s largest hospital systems with PPE during a global pandemic.
