Jovon Taylor Caldwell, nursing Ph.D. student, received the prestigious Jonas Scholars Award as a psychology/mental health scholar for the 2021-2023 cohort.
Sarah Blanchard, doctor of physical therapy student, received the inaugural Phyllis Palma Scholarship from the Georgia Foundation for Physical Therapy. The scholarship is named in memory of Georgia State PT alumna Phyllis Palma.
Maureen Meister and Rami Najjar, Ph.D. nutrition students, each received the United States Department of Agriculture, National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) two-year fellowship for their research on the therapeutic effects of berries. Read the full story here.
Rami Najjar, a Ph.D. nutrition student and Alivia Setka, an undergraduate nutrition student, have been named finalists for the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) “Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Abstract Recognition Award Program.” Najjar has also been named a finalist in the ASN “Graduate Student Research Award Competition.” Read the full story here.
Lauren Newhouse, undergraduate nursing student, was named the 2021-2022 Breakthrough to Nursing Director for the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) and will represent Georgia State in the national association. Read the full story here.
Alivia Setka, nutrition B.S. student, was awarded first place in Natural & Computational Sciences at the Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference for her poster titled, “Evaluation of Polyphenolic and Glucosinolate Content as well as Antioxidant and Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Oven- and Freeze-dried Hydroponic- and Soil-grown Kale Derived Extracts.”
Sydney Wright, doctor of physical therapy student, received the Georgia Foundation for Physical Therapy Scholarship. Georgia State PT alumna Beth Collier presented the scholarship notification to Sydney and Sarah in class late in March.

William Small, doctor of physical therapy student, was recognized by St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah with a “We Care” recognition from hospital CEO Paul Hinchey for his extraordinary concern about patients during his clinical rotation.
