Maher Ahmed is the 2019 winner of the Health Informatics Shark Tank competition
Health Informatics undergraduate Maher Ahmed recently passed the HIMSS Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) certification. The CAHIMS is one of the two health IT certifications offered by HIMSS. Ahmed was also a recipient of the 2020 GA HIMSS David Cowan Scholarship.
The credential helps advance the holders' healthcare careers by demonstrating professional knowledge in healthcare information and management systems to potential and current employers.
Ahmed received a scholarship to prepare and take the certification as a prize for winning first place in the 2019 Health Informatics Shark Tank. The second-place team, JR Espinoza and Efua Afedzie, who graduated in 2020, also took and passed the CAHIMS.
A former business development analyst and one-time medical student, Ahmed combined his past work experience, education and interests into his current major. He recently accepted a position at Athenahealth on the customer success team.
Ahmed is interested in alleviating public health disparities by leaning on innovative technology.
“My goal is to provide diversity (through cultural and professional experience) to executive leadership,” he said.
Ahmed will graduate with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Health Informatics in Summer 2021.
