Congratulations to the Nursing Students at Georgia State (NSGS) for receiving the both the West District Chapter of the Year and Chapter of the Year awards at the Georgia Association of Nursing Students Annual Convention.
NSGS is a student organization dedicated to the academic and professional growth and development of nursing students at Georgia State University. NSGS members participate in community service, leadership opportunities and educational workshops and seminars. Also, they provide peer support and also help to recruit potential new nursing students by offering their unique viewpoint at information sessions.
Among the community service projects for the past year, NSGS has sorted medical supplies for MedShare, an organization that provides unused, leftover medical supplies to third world countries. They have also participated in sorting Books for Africa and held a donation drive for My Sister’s House.
NSGS partners with the Girl Scouts in a community service collaboration held at Ga. State's Indian Creek Lodge at the end of every semester. The Girl Scouts help assemble hygiene bags (which include toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, feminine hygiene products), etc., to be donated to local Atlanta homeless shelters. NSGS hosts the event with food for the Scouts, along with music and entertainment, making the event fun for nursing students and younger participants.
NSGS serves at Trinity Soup Kitchen and this semester they are donating non-perishable food items to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's cardiac surgical unit to stock the waiting room's pantry and fridge.
They support both university and nursing professional events such as Lobby Day at the Georgia State Capitol. NSGS regularly sends delegates to state and national nursing student conventions. Recently, a group of seven students and two faculty members traveled to the National Student Nurses Association’s convention in Phoenix.
